Butterfly Garden

I guess Jonathan has resigned to losing his man cave and sharing my Mary Kay office, as he is currently painting what has been his "man cave" for the last two years a lovely shade of purple, called Butterfly Meadow.  We picked up three gallons of paint from The Home Depot yesterday- 1 each of the Butterfly Meadow, Rhapsody Lilac, and Holiday Road.  I know there will probably be plenty left over of the Rhapsody Lilac and the Holiday Road, but I've seen these really cute children's play kitchens in unfinished wood, and I was thinking I could use the excess paint to possibly paint some wooden toys for her when she's older.  Also, the holiday road would look awesome in our bedroom, sponged over a white or ecru paint, and we could finally get rid of that awful textured wall paper.  It was just that it was about the same price to buy 1 gallon of paint as it was to buy 2 quarts.  1 quart each of the sponge colors probably wouldn't be enough... so 3 gallons it was.

The baby's room is small enough that we can just put down new carpet ourselves.  I'm thinking I want high traffic household carpet, so it's not shaggy and doesn't collect dust.  Jonathan wants a solid color, and I'm thinking a grey might be nice.  A medium brown would also probably look awesome with the other colors being used.  Grey and brown are pretty neutral colors, and if we ever wanted to sell the house (to upgrade when our family expands any further), I don't think it would detract from the perceived value (like the red shag '60s carpet in the other upstairs bedroom did... we deducted about $1000 from our offer because of that atrocious rug!)  While I know the paint in the baby's room is really bright, and anything but neutral, I think it will be okay, because paint is cheap enough to redo once you buy a home.  Once the baby is born, and we have the time to clean out the other upstairs room, we can then replace that carpet and the carpeting on the stairs.  I'm thinking I will probably want to use the same carpeting on the stairs and in the other bedroom as we will be using in the baby's room.  Some uniformity is good, because it ties everything in together.  A brown might be better than grey, though, because the living room is painted a beige color, and the baby's room furniture is a cherry brown wood.

Jonathan's mom was nice enough to get us the crib/changing table/dresser combo, which changes to a toddler bed when baby Lucie gets older.  The crib is going to be delivered January 15th.  Hopefully, the baby's room will be complete by then!

The Storkcraft Tuscany crib/changing table/dresser/toddler bed linked above from Amazon.com is the same model as the one we will be using in Lucie's room, however I haven't been able to find the wood finish on Amazon that we've chosen. We've chosen a beautiful cherry color, whereas the linked is a darker Espresso brown finish.
